Your advice is your product. Protect it.
When you sell expertise — designs, advice, code, plans, financial guidance — a mistake doesn't dent a fender, it costs your client money. And clients who lose money sue. Professional liability (E&O) covers the financial fallout of getting it wrong.
CGL covers what you break. E&O covers what you get wrong.
This is the distinction that sinks professionals: your CGL policy almost certainly excludes financial losses from your professional services. The engineer whose spec error costs a client $400,000, the consultant whose missed deadline kills a launch — CGL won't touch it.
E&O fills exactly that gap: defense costs and settlements for negligence, errors, and omissions in your professional work. If clients pay for your judgment, this is the policy that protects it.
What's covered
Every risk is different, so every policy is built — not pulled off a shelf. Here's what a professional liability program typically includes:
Negligence & errors
Defense and damages when a client alleges your work caused them financial harm.
Omissions
What you failed to do or warn about — the silent half of most E&O claims.
Defense costs
Legal defense funded from day one, often the largest part of any E&O claim.
Retroactive coverage
Protects work you did before the policy started — critical when switching insurers.
Contractual liability
Aligned with the indemnity clauses your clients put in every master service agreement.
Regulatory proceedings
Coverage for complaints to your licensing body or regulator, where applicable.
How it works
Ten minutes on the phone. What you run, what you own, what keeps you up at night. No forms, no phone trees.
I take your file to 60+ insurers and specialty markets through Aaxel and make them compete for your business.
Clear options, straight numbers, coverage that actually fits. You decide — I handle the paperwork.
E&O for Ontario's professional economy
IT consultants in Toronto, engineers and architects across the GTA, marketing agencies in Mississauga, trades doing design-build work — I place professional liability for the full range of Ontario professions, with limits matched to your contracts and retroactive dates handled carefully at every renewal.
Questions, answered
I'm a freelancer. Do I need E&O?
If a client could lose money because of your work, yes — and many client contracts now require it before you start. Freelancers are sued just like firms; they just have less cushion.
What does 'claims-made' mean?
It means the policy covers claims made while it's active (plus retroactive work). Let it lapse and you can lose coverage for past projects — which is why I manage renewals and retroactive dates obsessively.
How much E&O do I need?
Match it to your contracts and your worst realistic claim — most professionals carry $1M–$2M. I'll read your client agreements and size it accordingly.
